Another San Diego Bay Day 'Just a reminder'

Hey Guys,

Just testing the water to see if there is any interest in having another FF San Diego Bay Day this winter. Those who participated last year enjoyed a beautiful warm sunny day on the water, followed by a festive bbq in the middle of winter. Good times for sure... We can aim for a good tide/moon phase in January and hope mother nature provides good weather again :)

Dave, I was just thinking about that. It was such a good time. Great location, good launc site, etc. Sung over at Bulla's is looking at setting up a striper day at silverwood.

Randy,
Stripers at Silverwood...sounds like fun. I'll keep an eye on Bulla's discussion board for the date.

I'm up for a SD Bay repeat, and would really like to hit
Silverwood, DVL, or Castaic...

What, none of Dave's smoke signals? How are we going to find the picnic area? :)

I'm in!

Absolutely count me in. I wouldn't miss it. My only objection is to the match-light charcoal. Those "pine needle" flavored brats were some of the best I've ever had.

January 2010 has three great Saturday tides: 2nd (full moon), 16th (no moon), 30th (full moon). Last year we fished a full moon as verified by Kim's photo taken as the bbq was winding down. I've been checking around, but haven't been able to confirm the date for the San Diego Bay Bass Classic 'tournament'. Last year it was scheduled during the 'no moon' tide and it hosted 150 two man teams; I'm guessing they will do the same this year. I will keep an eye on the 2010 tournament schedule and update our event accordingly.

Dave,

Thanks for your efforts, you are a great tour guide!! Be sure to give us all assignments where you need help. I'll volunteer Kim for all the dirty work.

Better yet... maybe Kim would be willing to hang out at the Glorietta Park and 'hold' a couple of picnic tables for us while we're out fishing.

P.S. Joe, where have you been??

Dave,
Right now I'm sitting in Mammoth deciding whether to go to Upper Owens, Lower Owens or Hot Creek. I've fished the Upper twice with limited success so maybe it's time to try sething else. I report more fully when I'm on my computer.

Perry,

Thanks for the tip. I finally got down to Hot Creek for a few hours this afternoon (Wednesday) and picked up several very small rainbows and hooked into a very nice brown but got him tangled in the grass and finally succeeded in a long distance release just as I was figuring out how I'd pose the fish for a fliflicker photo op. All fish were on either an olive bead head hare's ear, size 16 or a zebra midge with silver beadhead and wire, size 20. The wind was blowing pretty steadily in Mammoth this afternoon and that coupled with the cool conditions almost discouraged me from going. I'm glad I did though as except for a few puffs of breeze it was calm down on the creek and I only saw one other fliflicker during the 2 or so hours I was there. I was at the third parking area, the first being up on the bluff near the gate and the lower fence at Hot Creek Ranch, the second down in the little ravine which was packed with cars. I immediately pulled into the third lot as there wasn't a car in site.

It's supposed to snow/rain late tonight and tomorrow AM but if the conditions look favorable I think I'll give Hot Creek another shot.

Dave,

I believe that the big San Diego Bay Tournament has been set for 24Jan2010 (reference Google search on San Diego Bay Tournament yielding: http://www.sandiegoanglers.com/openbaybass.php) so I propose that we hold the second annual day on the bay with Dave for 17Jan2010. There are pretty good tides that day, a negative early AM followed by pretty good high tide so there should be some pretty good current flows and doing it the weekend before the Bay Tourney maybe the fish won't be suffering shell shock. I pass the baton back to Dave so that he can make final say on "Dave's Day at the Bay II". I know I'm going to get an early start on tying up some Liberace Clousers in Dave's color selection with a few of the Kevin mod to boot.

Hey Guys...recent update 11/19/09,

The San Diego Bay Bass Classic has finally posted the date for their '2010' event. They will be fishing on Saturday January the 30th. Thanks Joe for 'bird-doggin' the updated info and passing it on. This leaves two very good tides open on the 2nd and the 16th. The 2nd is a full moon and the 16th is a new moon. Both days should fish well!!! The 2nd is the day after the Rose Parade and that alone almost guarantees beautiful southern California weather, but I think the morning of the 16th should see the fish a little more active. We can fish either day or 'both' days, but if I had to choose just one I'd lean towards the 16th. Any objections??? Lets get this in stone as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

Hope to see you guys at BMFS this weekend,
Dave

Garrett,

A lot of us are 'newcomers' relatively speaking. Join us... make some new friends; that's what these meets are all about. Last year, the bbq that followed was just as fun as the fishing itself. It was a great opportunity to meet guys that shared the same interests. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn from the guys on this board once you get connected and start networking.

See you on the bay,
Dave
