SD Surf - 5/31

I finished out May with a nice long walk on a very flat beach this morning. Went in at the Seascape Sur access stairway in Solana Beach and probed the water from there to well north of Fletcher Cove. Walked close to 3 miles round trip. Grey was the color of the day as both the water and the sky remained stubbornly grey. I'm still hoping for a bit of sun down here in San Diego.

This beach was as flat as I had even seen it. Just a few small rips to probe. Nothing seen (nor spooked) working the skinny water. The corbina must have been elsewhere, perhaps up north playing with Glenn Ueda.

I did manage to break up my nice walk with 3 smallish perch and an almost fair hooked SNGF. It was good to feel some tugs on the end of my 4wt. Perhaps June will be kinder to me on the beach. At least the bay is still kicking out some fish.

No I haven't. I've got it in m mind that that stretch of the coast is closed to fishing. I might be wrong. The closest I get is Black's Beach at Torrey Pines.

Anytime you avoid the skunk, especially these days, is a good day. I like to hear how the beach is fishing down SD way, so thanks for this report. It makes me feel okay about the fishing in the OC. I listened to Glen Ueda's Corbina talk at the LBCC last night. Now I have to start walking the beaches ....
