NPH Bass Bendo 7/8/18

Tossed the coin at 5 am this morning, heads to Bolsa for Leos or tails for Newport Beach in the tube..... came up tails so got into some decent spotties out the gate from the CGS on the kick out to the bait barge. The Spotties liked the Ghost Minnow.

Pirate's Cove gave up a couple of Calicos

but the real grab and tug fest was at the bait barge where the Calicos and Sand Bass bite was off the charts during the last two hours of the weak outgoing tide. At one stage it was a Calico or Calico/ Sand Bass double every cast and I lost count after about fifty. Bouncing the flies ( 1/0 Ghost Minnow and a #2 olive over white Clouser) off the side of the bait barge then counting to two got some savage takes. The fish came in various sizes but for the most part were in the 10"-12" range with 3 legal Calicos and 2 legal Sand Bass which put a serious bend in the Echo Geko #4/5 weight (this is not a child's rod) in a short spell just before low water at 11.30. Got some pics before the iphone died. Kicked back in to the CGS at noon with a stiff breeze at my back..

Cheers, the good thing about NPH in a float tube is that kicking is drastically reduced you can use the tides and winds; fair distances can be covered as long as you are not in a hurry and avoid being at the bait barge on the outgoing of a 7 foot tide swing....
