Saturday Surf, 12-15-18

Went with three others to Crystal Cove this morning. The waves were too big at times, but the in-between was just about right. The fishing was fair, or it sucked, depending which of us you talk to.

And yes, that is my new specialty knot for the upper fly. It's called the too-lazy-to-retie-but-it-should-still-work knot. You don't use your hands. It's tied with tailing loops, pile casts, and cross-body roll casts. Very special.

Keep fishing - Kevin

Hey Kevin, I know that knot! :) Went out south of “T” Street in SC on Friday, and managed just one BSP, a single hefty YFC, and a 20” halibut on long casts to deep holes about 80’ out. The “butt” inhaled a 5” black bunny leech, with the other two taking the surfworm dropper. Action is still a little slow, but it’s definitely slower if you don’t go, so get out there guys and dunk some flies. Neap tides and smaller surf for the next few days spell “halibut!” When it gets bigger later in the week, the beach across the street from Alamitos Bay would be an excellent choice.
